Georgia Tech is committed to providing accessible digital experiences that allow all members of our community—and the public—to fully access information, services, and opportunities offered by the Institute.
Under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state and local governments, including public universities, are required to ensure that their programs, services, and digital content are accessible to individuals with disabilities. The U.S. Department of Justice’s updated Title II regulations identify the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as the minimum technical standard for digital accessibility.
Georgia Tech’s digital accessibility initiative supports this requirement by helping ensure that our websites, applications (including social media), documents, and digital instructional materials meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. These standards are designed to remove barriers and help people of all abilities find information, complete tasks, and meaningfully engage with the Institute.
Our Commitment to Accessible Digital Experiences
Georgia Tech is actively working to enhance its digital platforms and online resources to align with WCAG 2.1 AA, the accessibility standard referenced in the updated Title II regulations. This work reflects both our legal obligations and our broader commitment to ensure that digital content and services are usable and welcoming for everyone.
Accessible digital content is designed to be:
- Perceivable – Information and content can be seen, heard, or otherwise accessed in multiple ways
- Operable – Content is easy to navigate using a mouse, keyboard, or assistive technology
- Understandable – Information is clear, predictable, and presented in consistent formats
- Robust – Content is compatible with current and emerging assistive technologies
By embedding these principles into how we design, build, and maintain digital content, Georgia Tech is working toward a more inclusive and sustainable digital environment for all users.
How the Public Benefits
Digital accessibility improves usability for everyone—not just individuals with disabilities. Whether you are visiting campus for the first time, exploring academic programs, applying to Georgia Tech, or accessing online services, accessibility enhancements help ensure that digital experiences are intuitive, reliable, and easy to use.
Accessible digital content helps ensure that:
- Maps and directions are easier to navigate
- Forms and applications work with screen readers and other assistive technologies
- Event information is available in multiple formats
- Videos include captions and transcripts
- Websites are usable across different devices, browsers, and assistive tools
- Content is consistent, clear, and easier to understand
By prioritizing digital accessibility, Georgia Tech strengthens access, improves user experience, and reinforces its commitment to serving the entire community with excellence.
