Administrators and staff play a critical role in delivering the programs and services that support Georgia Tech’s day-to-day operations—such as library services, class registration, student payments, housing, health services, human resources, purchasing, and procurement.
To ensure equivalent access to essential campus services, administrators and staff who are responsible for content must understand how to create, maintain, and manage digital content that complies with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Accessible digital systems and communications help ensure that individuals with disabilities can independently access information, complete tasks, and fully participate in Institute services.
Responsibilities
- Requesting manual web accessibility testing when significant updates or changes are made to unit or departmental websites.
- Ensuring online resources—such as forms, applications, and portals—are accessible to individuals with disabilities who rely on critical unit or departmental services (e.g., Student Health Services, the Registrar, Parking and Transportation Services).
- Creating and maintaining accessible electronic documents (including PDF, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation documents) in accordance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
- Ensuring digital communications—such as newsletters, emails, listserv messages, and announcements—are accessible and usable by all audiences.
- Partnering with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) through the Campus Technology Request (CTR) process to help ensure that digital solutions purchased or implemented by the Institute meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements.
- Working with OIT using the Campus Technology Request (CTR) to ensure the digital solutions going through the purchasing and procurement process adhere to WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
By integrating accessibility into everyday workflows and procurement decisions, you can help reduce barriers, improve usability, and support Georgia Tech’s commitment to inclusive digital experiences.
